AGITATION AND PROPAGANDA IN THE USSR DURING THE INITIAL STAGE OF THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Abstract

Background. During the initial stage of the Great Patriotic War in the conditions of adaptation of the Soviet population to a new social and economic situation the agitation and propaganda activity was of particular importance. The purpose of this work is to consider contents and forms of agitation and propaganda in Penza region in the first months of the Great Patriotic War.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were completed through using documents of the State Archive of Penza region. A specific place is held by materials of a local periodical – the Stalinskoye Znamya newspaper (July–December, 1941). The authr used the historical and genetic method allowing to establish sources and the reasons of change of the agitation and propaganda activity, to generalize the facts and historical data; the historical and comparative method aimed at allocation of peculiar features of agitation and propaganda in the region, their comparison and collation.
Results. Actions of the local authorities in realization of the key directions of agitation and propaganda were investigated: lecturing and holding conversations, training, registration of evident propaganda, etc. Features of publication practice were considered. The involvement of movie theaters and libraries in this activity was unveiled.
Conclusions. Studying the agitation and propaganda in the first months of the Great Patriotic War has allowed to reveal special lines in practice of the local leadership, cultural and educational institutions of Penza region, to define new directions for further studying of the scientific problem.
